I can tell you one HUGE tip that I've learned over the years: Start your prices where you need them. Do NOT underprice yourself just to get your client list started, because you will get burned out (or not be able to pay the bills!) by not charging enough, and it is so much harder to raise prices later, than to just start them out where you need them in the first place!

Also, never stop learning  :)  There are so many trade magazines you can subscribe to, and trade shows to attend! I try to attend at least one event per year. It's so great to further your education, rekindle your love for your profession, meet lots of fellow groomers, and see what new products and processes are out there.

You dont know how many times I have been tempted to do that very thing.  I think its because Im green  and I know it.  I know I have the knowledge and the ability but I still lack experence and Im gullible  .  I also really do love animals. I always have to monitor myself about taking in strays and listening to peoples bad luck stories involving their pets and I sometimes help more than I can afford to at the time and sometimes I tend to do things for people that are a little too generous if I want to make a living at this business.  I can tell you at this point I have SPENT way more than I have ever made between the online classes and the equipment and shampoos and conditioners..not to mention a decent pair of sheers.... Well I dont have to tell you .

There are people who will honestly appreciate your goodwill, and people who will take advantage and walk all over you for it. I still can't always tell the difference until it's too late  ;)
